Guest Designer ~ Emily Mydlowski

Hi Friends and Happy Monday! It’s Emily Mydlowski (@popsofpaper) and I’m so happy to be here sharing a card that was inspired by my recent family vacation in the Colorado mountains.

There a lot of different elements in this card and I’ll try my best to capture all the details. How about we start with all of the supplies:

SugarPea Stamps: RV There Yet? for the Sentiment and Bring on the Cake for the silver-embossed star border.

SugarCuts Dies: Log Cabin MountainscapeBirthday Journal Card for the scalloped frame and star die cuts, Card Front Element Builder for the hills.

Other: Distress Oxide Ink (chipped sapphire, lucky clover and pine needles), Silver Embossing Powder, VersaMark, Copic Markers, Copper Washi Tape Paper, Glossy Accents and VersaFine Clair Ink in Nocturne.

Creating the Framed Mountain scene:

  1. To create the frame, I die cut two scalloped journal cards from the Birthday Journal Card Die Set. One was used as the back of the scene which I ink blended in chipped sapphire to create my night sky. I used the stitched rectangle die in the Birthday Journal Card die set to create the frame opening on the second scalloped journal card.
  2. The Log Cabin Mountainscape and Card Front Element Builder Hills where die cut on white cardstock and trimmed to fit in the scalloped frame.
  3. Then I ink blended the hills with lucky clover and pine needles distress oxide ink and added little green dots with Copic Markers for a little extra texture. I colored the mountains, trees and log cabin with Copic markers. I added the white mountaintop die cuts and a Washi Tape Paper Copper roof to the cabin. It’s hard to see but I also added some glossy accents to the windows.
  4. I pieced everything together with foam tape and Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. Added the sentiment with VersaFine Clair Nocturne Ink and added little white star embellisments and die cuts from the Birthday Journal Card die. I snuck in the larger star die cut from the Gift Tag Die.

Creating the Card Base & Finishing the Card

  1. I traced the scalloped mountain scene on navy cardstock with light pencil as my guide so I knew where to stamp the stars.
  2. I prepped my card base with anti-static powder. With VersaMark, I stamped the stars along the edges of the card. Then I added silver embossing powder (and used a small dry paint brush to remove stray powder) and used my heat tool to heat emboss the star border.
  3. Once the border was stamped and embossed, I adhered the Framed Mountain Scene to the card base for the finished card.

I hope you enjoyed my card today and all the fun die cutting details. The landscape dies are so much fun to work with and I hope it inspires you to work with your dies and stamps in fun new ways.

Big Paper Hugs!

Emily
