Hello Christmas!
Hi everyone! I hope you’re well. I love my crafting supplies to do double duty – to use them for more than just one type of card. Whilst I was thinking about what to create, I decided to make a Christmas greeting, but I was a little short on Christmas stamps. I took a second look at the Cottontail Cuties stamp set and knew there was a way of shoehorning it into a seasonal card.
I began by looking carefully at the images. I knew the fox would be perfect and thought it would be easy to cut out a simple shape for the hat and add a punched white circle for the bobble. I saw the two sticks with leaves and knew that could be a sledge! All I needed to do was colour in the images and add onto a freehand cut wavy cardstock piece. I hooked a loop of twine over the fox’s arm and secured it to the reverse of the sledge. Add a little gold cardstock square and add a mini twine bow for a present. I trimmed a little slit into the fox’s head (ouch) and slotted the hat into the space so it looked as if it were actually on his head.
The original idea with this card was to make a snow overlay. I had the Falling Snow Stencil which was perfect for the job. I love using acetate, so secured some acetate to my craft mat, secured the stencil over that and added some embossing paste. One tip here; acetate doesn’t grab and hold the paste like cardstock does, so you have to be a little more careful about how you scrape the paste over the stencil. You can see in the photo that I’ve left blobs of paste where I was having the paste pull off.
You just need to leave to dry. I could have sprinkled glitter on top of the snow, but I forgot! Acetate is always a tricky one to secure. I decided to fold the top of it over the blue cardstock layer, so I could hide the adhesive behind. It doesn’t sit perfectly flush with the card, but that’s part of its charm. It would make a perfect tag too. All I needed to do was stamp the sentiment from Everyday Sentiments and add a little glitter on top of the snow.
Thinking a little outside of the box makes you stretch your supplies and means they don’t languish in your cupboard, waiting for the same season next year. Hope you get to use your supplies creatively this week. See you very soon!
