Mandala-Mania
Good morning! Ardyth here with this week’s Light Bulb Moment!
I love all kinds of stamps: images, sentiments, backgrounds, alphabets – you name it. But the ones I turn to time and time again tend to be basics that can be used in a multitude of ways to create cards for any occasion. I feel like that about the Striped Background stamp and this month’s Mandala is another classic. During our recent Sweet Peeks week I showed two ways to use watercolour to quickly colour it. Now, let me show you just a few more ways you can use it!
Christmas (partial)
You don’t have to use the whole stamp – here I used half. I embossed it in silver, blended it with blue and green distress inks and then cut it with a Zig Zag Stitched Circle die.
Another partial – this time from the centre. I embossed the Mandala in gold and blended with red distress inks. I used the Beautiful Bauble die to cut the circle, ensuring the centre of the Mandala was in the centre of the bauble, and I cut off the ring. I cut another full bauble and used Versamark ink and gold embossing powder to emboss the ring and then layered the red circle on the full bauble. I added some holly and berries (also blended with distress inks) to cover the area that wasn’t perfect due to the cutting.
Do you know about the SugarPea Fan Page on Facebook? Join us there for photos and lots of information and chatter from the SugarPea Fan Community! I recently read a comment there from one of you that the Mandala would be beautiful for Eid cards – I don’t know very much about Eid, but if you do, we’d love to hear your thoughts and see your Eid cards using the Mandala!
Wedding (elegant)
Here, I embossed the Mandala with Silver Pearl embossing powder – it truly has a shimmery pearl-like finish that is perfect for a white on white card. I added a sentiment from Breakfast in Bed and some gems for sparkly texture.
For another example of an elegant use of the Mandala, check out Wendy’s card here.
Friendship (whimsical, tone-on-tone)
Again, I used partial stampings to create a whimsical feel. I stamped the mandala on white cardstock and coloured selected areas with a rainbow of Copic markers. I cut it out with the Gift Tag SugarCut and added a sentiment from Sweet Sentiments: You. I used my MISTI to line up the Mandala on my grey background panel, so that it would match up with the tag. This tone-on-tone stamping adds interest to the background without too much clutter.
Simonne made a fabulous card with a whimsical feel here.
Thanks (monochrome)
Here, I created a frame by using a different partial cut of the Mandala. I kept my colour scheme monochrome, black and white, and added a pop of shine with some shaker elements. Amy made a gorgeous monochrome card here.
I hope that you enjoyed these cards and that they’ve shown that the possibilities with this stamp are endless! We’d love to see what you make with your Mandala!
