Masking Tutorial with Kim O’Connell

Hello, SugarPea Fans!  We are starting to see SugarPea Design cards popping up on the web and we couldn’t be more excited!  Please feel free to post your cards on the SugarPea Facebook page!  Don’t forget to use the keyword “SPD” if you are uploading to Splitcoaststampers or 2 Peas in a Bucket!  We will be searching for some “Sweet Finds” to feature here on the blog and on our Facebook page!

How many of you bought the Bushel and Peck stamp? How many of you have it on your wish list?  One technique you will need to know to use this set is the masking technique and it is really quite easy!    I love to use the X-Press it Mask It Medium Tack Film Sheets when masking.  You can buy them HERE at Marker Pop or HERE on Amazon.

Let me show you how I got those hearts into her her barrel!

I started by stamping the hearts onto a scrap piece of paper.  Then I covered the image with a piece of the Mask It sheet.

Now, cut out your hearts and then peel the “Mask It” sheet apart from the scrap piece of paper.  This is your mask.

Now stamp the hearts again onto the cardstock that you will color.   Cover the hearts with your mask. Now stamp the cute little girl over the mask lining up her barrel with the bottom of the hearts.

Now, you can peel away the mask over your hearts and SAVE IT with your stamp set so you have it to use the next time!   Now your image is ready to color!

Now, I also went with the “out of the box” technique to make my card, but that’s another tutorial for another day!

For a list of copics I used to color her, you can head to my blog!

Now, you don’t NEED the Mask It sheets to do the masking technique.  Before I had them, I would stamp my image into a scrap piece of paper, cut it out, and then use a removable adhesive to adhere the mask to the image.  So, you can certainly do that, but once you use the Mask It, you won’t want to do it any other way!

I hope this tutorial was helpful and if you had held back on purchasing the Bushel and a Peck stamp set because you weren’t so sure how to get all of those options for fillings into her basket, now you know how to do it.  Easy peasy!

Thanks for a great tutorial…I have also used full adhesive post it notes. Great card …her expression is priceless. Please do make the tutorial about “out of the box” technique…my method doesn’t work as well as I would like.

Great tutorial Kim. I don’t have the mask it stuff so I just use removable tape for my mask.

Can I add my little voice from London, England to also request the out of the box technique? I can’t find anywhere in England that sells the mask it stuff, so I will persevere with my good ol’ strip of sticky post-it notes. Sigh. Anyone know of anything that is sold in the UK that is better for masking? Would love to hear.
