Some of you may remember SugarPea Designs early years. Our very first stamp set was a little set called Rice Rice Baby. If you’re not familiar with this set, it features an adorable penguin who is dressed as a sushi chef and has loads of punny sentiments. This stamp set was the FIRST stamp concept idea that I had for SugarPea Designs. I vividly remember sitting at a local theme park watching both of my children (who were only 4 & 5-years old at the time) play on a playground while I held my daughters’ stuffed pink penguin so she wouldn’t get it dirty. I was trying to think of what we should have for dinner later that night when I decided that sushi sounded really good. And it was at that moment our penguin guy was born. I adore this guy not only because he’s adorable but also for everything that he represents. For me, he’s that creative SPARK brought to life. I guess you could say that he’s SugarPea Designs unofficial mascot. And over the years he has been featured in many stamp sets. He’s been a postal carrier delivering Happy Mail, played golf in Tee-Rific, ice fished in Have an Ice Day, once he found himself with his Tinsel in a Tangle and today he’s back with Cool Treats.
My card sample for today was really quick and simple to put together. I started by loosely watercoloring with Gansai Tambi paints on Arches Cold Press paper to create what I thought looked like Strawberry & Lemon Sherbert. After the paper had thoroughly dried, I die cut it with SugarCut Card Front Element Builder. I layered this panel onto pink cardstock and attached it to a white cardstock card base. I colored the Cool Treats image with Copics and die cut it with the coordinating SugarCut die set. With a white gel pen, I added polka dots to his swim trunks and “shine” to his intertube. To finish things off I coated the intertube and ice cream with Glossy Accents.
