Hi there! Kerin here with you and today I’m sharing a sympathy card I created with the gorgeous Pretty Peonies set.
I began by creating somewhat of a chalkboard looking background, by painting a piece of watercolor paper with black watercolor paint. I added a few layers of black to get the rich color I was seeking. Then, I splattered on some water droplets and dried them with a paper towel to give it a bit of a smudged look. Finally I splattered on some white watercolor paint.
**TIP: If your cardstock is warped after drying your watercolor paper with a heat gun, apply the heat from the heat gun to the underneath, this will flatten the cardstock again.
Many people think that coloring a finely detailed flower like this must be super difficult, but this flower was colored in a snap with watercolors and distress inks. Here’s a close-up of the watercoloring on the flower:
I simply used two distress inks (Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick), rubbed a bit onto a clear stamping block, then picked up the ink with a wet paintbrush. I applied the Spun Sugar all over the flower first, then went back with the Worn Lipstick to darken some areas. The green is from my set of watercolors, which are labeled in Chinese, so I have no idea what color I used lol.
Once I was ready to add my sentiment, I was afraid the light pink wouldn’t pop enough against the background, so I added an extra layer of black underneath:
