Sweet Talk with Lori

Today we have the very talented, Lori Tecler for our Sweet Talk feature.

I’m Feeling…

excited about the start of the upcoming school year.  Since the end of the last school year, I’ve started a new twelve month position in my school system’s curriculum office and I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges as I work with teachers and staff across our county to support student learning.

I’m Wishing…

for a little more time at the beach.  Like I said, I started a new job and that job started pretty much right after the end of the school year.  I only managed to spend three days at the beach in June and that was pretty much the extent of my vacation time this summer.

 I’m Loving…

the stretch of warm but not too warm weather we’ve been having lately.  Having lived in the DC area for all of my life, I know that it won’t be too long before we have another blast of heat and humidity.

I’m Creating…

lots of cards.  There are some fun new things coming soon from SugarPea Designs!

 I’m Reading…

The Vacationers.   Before that, I read The Forgotten Girl.  After that, I’m planning to start reading All the Light We Cannot See.  And, there’s plenty more waiting on my Kindle and on my nightstand for after that.  My reading selections are pretty eclectic!

 I’m Watching…

The Americans on DVD.  I’m midway through the second season and definitely hooked!  And, I admit to watching General Hospital, too.  I’ve watched for years and it’s great to have on in the background when I’m stamping since I don’t have to pay really close attention to what’s going on!

I have a little trick for getting a stack of layered die cut pieces to look even more dimensional.  All you need to do is cut the die cut several times from one color of colored cardstock (I used a bright pink) and then cut the SugarCut – Thanks die one time from dark gray cardstock.

Once you have the pieces cut, stack them up and adhere them together with glue, saving the gray piece for last.  That piece goes on the bottom of the stack, offset just slightly.  It gives the effect of a shadow.  Super easy, but a nice detail.

And, here’s the card where I used the die cut “thanks” on.  Recognize that tag?

Yes, it’s the new bookmark die from the SugarCuts- Brainy Bookmarks set.  By trimming the bookmark a bit, I was able to get even more mileage out of this great die!  After I attached the layered “thanks” die cut to my bookmark tag, I stamped the “friend” sentiment from the Teddybear Picnic set.  A few pink enamel dots arranged around the tag finished off the design.

If you’d like to try creating your own dimensional die layers with any of the products you’ve seen here using this fun technique, you can find them HERE.
