Thank You {Spritz Watercolor Stamping Technique}

Hi there, Nicole here.

Today I’m sharing a card with a stamping technique I haven’t used in a long time and just recently rediscovered. Some crafters call it Spritz Watercolor Stamping. It’s super easy and I think the watercolor look you get is pretty cool.

All you need are some solid stamps, dye inks, a water mister and some watercolor paper. I used the beautiful succulents from the Stuck On You stamp set. They are (almost) solid and just perfect for this method. When picking an ink for this technique, make sure it reacts with water. I used dye inks but I guess Distress Inks would work as well. As for the spritzing tool, I used one by Ranger called Distress Sprayer but you can totally use another one as well but I must say, I find it easier with a spritzer that makes a soft and even mist and not large drops of water.

Now, let the fun begin! I played around with the stamps until I had a layout I liked. Then, I stamped every stamp individually. I started with the succulent at the left. I partially inked it up with a green ink, spritzed it with water and then gently pressed it down unto my watercolor paper. I let it sit there for a few seconds and then removed it carefully. I cleaned my stamp and inked it up again with a turquoise ink. By mixing inks on your stamp and only partially inking them up, you can get a more interesting and more watercolory look. I did the same for the other plants and the pots, always starting with the lightest ink and creating depth using darker inks but just on parts of the stamp.

I hope you can see that it’s really not that complicated. All you do is spritzing your inked up stamp with water before you stamp it down on your paper. By the way, I let everything air-dry and did not use a heating tool.

Now, to finish up my card, I wanted to keep the background quite simple. I masked off the ground and did some ink blending with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I used the Honeycomb stencil together with Peakcock Feathers Distress Ink to make the one layer card a bit more interesting. My sentiment is from the awesome Everyday Sentiments stamp set and is stamped with Peakcock Feathers Oxide Ink.
