Hello, friends! It’s Kelly here sharing a fun Halloween inspired card using the fabulous new Darling Dragons stamp set and Hocus Pocus Sugar Cuts! I had such a fun time using all of these new products during the Sweet Peek Week, but there was one idea that I still wanted to try! I thought it would be super cute to make large, die cut circles to mimic bubbles brewing up from the cauldron. Of course the “What’s Brewin?” sentiment is the perfect fit as well!
To begin, I got to work stamping and coloring the bat and dragon images from the Darling Dragons stamp set. I made some pink and purple dragons during the release, but I hadn’t made a traditional green one, so I decided to try one for today’s design. Once everything was colored, I die cut them using the Darling Dragons SugarCuts and set them aside.
Since I made a green dragon, I opted for a purple potion to be bubbling and brewing! To create this look, I did some ink blending using a variety of purple Distress Oxide Inks. Once I had enough coverage, I die cut the three circles using the Zig Zag stitched circles SugarCuts. I used the three smallest sizes which was perfect for the dragon, sentiment and bats! Once they were cut, I spritzed them with water and shimmer spray and let them dry.
I used quite a lot of oxide ink backgrounds during the release so I wanted to try something a little bit different for today’s design. I had a lot of leftover pattern paper scraps from the set of tags I made during the release, so I put them to good use as a background for today’s card. The paper is from the Spots and Stripes Brights Pattern Paper Collection.
I attached them at wonky angles and then I die cut the panel using the Zig Zag Stitched Rectangle SugarCuts. I wanted to bring in the same detail as the bubbles to the edges of the card. I used the largest rectangle for the black card base. Once all the pieces were in place, it was easy to build this bubbling scene. I added a few clear Nuvo Drops to the potion as well as on the different circles. The “What’s Brewin?” sentiment is heat embossed in silver onto the middle circle. Make sure that you let your oxide ink dry completely before attempted to do any heat embossing because the powder will stick if it is still wet! You can see the sparkle and shimmer on the black cauldron as well as on the bubbly circles.
I love how this “thinking of you” card turned out. I really like that it isn’t necessarily a Halloween card, but you could send it to anyone who could use some cheer during October! I already know who will be getting this one!
