Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for my Guest Design post for SugarPea Designs! I’ve had such an amazing time showing off their amazing products!
I want to talk about two very important things to me today.
Stretching your stamps.
And cake.
Let’s tackle the yummier of the two first.
A party just isn’t a party without cake. I’m sorry, but it’s true. Doubly true if it’s a birthday party. My one rule about birthdays is that there must be cake. Sure, you can have fancy finger food, balloons, presents, all that. But a party without cake is just a meeting. (Incidentally, we often have cakes in our meetings too. That doesn’t make them parties. That just makes them much better meetings).
Now, where was I?
Ah yes. Cake:
So, you can see how strongly I feel about this issue – I had to put it on a card. And, I didn’t have any of the cake stamps from SugarPea Designs yet (note to self: must remedy). So, what’s a girl to do when she has to make a very important cake statement? Stretch her stamps.
Believe it or not, the yummy cupcake was made entirely from stamps from the Caffeine Addict stamp set! Take a closer look:
I used a lot of selective inking on various stamps in the set to create my cupcake. The frosting was obviously the whipped cream image, but the rest was all made by selective inking of several different images. I used the frappuccino lid stamp twice – once partially inking the dome to make the cake, and then turning it upside down and inking just the lip to make the wrapper top. Part of the coffee cup label (and its sides) were used to create the wrapper itself. The heart-shaped steam became an edible chocolate decoration! And the candle? Part of the straw, and then the large and small coffee beans on top of each other (and a little water) to create the flame.
I still reach for my trusty label maker when it comes to creating a custom sentiment. And it makes for a pop of graphic black to contrast with that watercoloured cupcake, the gold and black splatter, delicate glitter, and those delicious sequins. A layer of patterned paper adds some final interest to tie the party feel together – but even with all those different design elements, my cake is the star of the show. As it should be.
Stretching my stamps by selectively inking them is one of my favourite ways to maximise the number of looks I can get out of them – and by stretching those precious dollars further it gives us more money in our wallets to spend on important things. Like cake.
I hope you love this card as much as I loved making it! And I hope it’s helped you to look at your own supplies more closely to think about how you can stretch them and get more out of them!
I’ve so enjoyed my time guesting for SugarPea Designs – it’s been a very sweet experience indeed!! I want to thank Wendy once again for inviting me to spend some time with you here. If you’d like to keep in touch please head on over to my blog to see more of my work! Bye for now!

September 26, 2016 at 2:46 pmThe epitome of ingenuity, Taheerah! Never in a million years would I have even ‘dreamed’ of creating a yummy cupcake as the one you’ve designed here, much less going forth and assembling it! Sheer brilliance! The heart and candle are *the* perfect special touches! Love the photo spread…including that nibbled cupcake that’s obviously received some attention! I don’t need to elaborate on what I’m craving right now….You’ve been an amazing Guest Designer here, Taheerah! I have a SPD list well underway….

September 28, 2016 at 7:31 pmIt’s a fun card with a lot of selective stamping, so it would become what you’ve imagined, Taheerah! Love the sentiment :)! Stretching goodies is one of my favorite techniques :).
