Good morning! Ardyth here with the next Light Bulb Moment! Today I thought we’d take a look at tips for participating in an inspiration challenge, such as SugarPea Designs’ Mix it Up Challenge. This is a monthly challenge and there’s a prize awarded each month! We would love to see you participate – check out the challenge blog for details!
Today, I’ll focus on tips for using the photo side of the inspiration.
Here’s this month’s challenge inspiration:
First, make a list of the elements you want to focus on and possibly include in your card.
I focused on the colours, stripes, textures, masculine feel of that nautical pillow.
I wanted to have 3 horizontal stripes on my focal panel. I lined up my Striped Background stamp, using the grid lines on my MISTI to make sure it was straight.
Next, I masked off the stripes I didn’t want to stamp.
Inked up the 3 stripes.
Removed the tape. This is VERY important!
Stamped. A little blotchy the first time, so I did it again.
Ah, perfect! I cut this down to fit on my square card.
I cut 3 Thanks SugarCuts dies and stacked them with liquid glue.
I placed them under an acrylic block to dry
I added some texture (see the white panelling in the photo?) with some scoring.
I chose a kraft card base to include the wooden skateboard element. I assembled the card and realized something was definitely missing. That’s ok, we have to be flexible with our planning. I went back to the photo for more inspiration. I found it in the framed art on the wall – some colour!
I cut 3 of each star and coloured with Copics. Stacked and glued and added to the card – the perfect little pops of colour and texture!
